Relaxer is an Akron, Ohio based passive progressive rock band comprised of guitarist Jamie Stillman (The Party of Helicopters, Teeth of the Hydra, Drummer [ft. the Black Keys’ Patrick Carney], EarthQuaker Devices), vocalist/guitarist Joe Scott (White Pines), bassist Corey Haren (Mount Ratz), drummer Bradley Thorla (Hell’s Information, Sofa King Killer), a fog machine, and a shitload of lasers, Relaxer has spent the first half of the 21st century dropping jaws and blowing minds with their blend of hesher riffs, effects-driven soundscapes, psychedelic explorations, captivating stage presence, and the postmodern everyman earnestness of Joe Scott’s reverb-laden vocal delivery; sharing stages with the Shins, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and EYE.
Relaxer went into the studio in January of 2013 with producer/engineer Chris Koltay (renowned for his work with My Morning Jacket, Swans, and Deerhunter) to record their first full-length album titled Lasers. The album was recorded live over the course of a week at High Bias Studio in Detroit and mixed throughout the summer. It was then meticulously mastered at Timeless Mastering by Heba Kadry, whose resume includes The Mars Volta, Wooden Ships, and The Sea & Cake. The end result is 5 song full length which is both a visceral and progressive sonic journey clocking in at just under 50 minutes.
Following their 2015 appearance at the Levitation festival in Austin, TX, Relaxer spent the last two years in writing mode, constructing the multilayered compositions that make up their new album Unreal/Cities, available Friday, October 13, 2017 on EarthQuaker Devices Records.
